KANE — Flickerwood Wine Cellars of Kane will mark their 16th anniversary over Memorial Day weekend, Saturday through Monday, with Flickerfest 2016.
The wine cellars are owned and operated by the Ron and Sue Zampogna family. The annual event draws several thousand people over the three days, during which the company will release another new wine, Pinot Noir. It is one of the most requested wines at the winery and this is the first opportunity the Flickerwood wine-makers have had to make it.
The winner of the Pinot Noir label contest will be announced along with the release of the wine and the unveiling of the winning wine label. The winner will receive a $200 cash prize and a case of the wine.
Also taking place during Flickerfest will be all-day wine tasting, with the entire selection of award-winning wines available for sampling.
On Saturday will be a kick-off breakfast from 10 a.m. to noon, featuring breakfast and a choice of mimosas or Bloody Marys. The Sangria Bar will be available on Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, a gourmet cheese and wine tasting will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Reservations are appreciated for the breakfast and cheese and wine tasting events.
Organizers said musical groups will also be in attendance all weekend. Among the acts slated to perform are The New Uncorked from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, along with Samantha Sears, who will make her debut that day. On Sunday, Sean Patrick and the New Grass Revolution will perform from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
Rounding out the weekend on Monday will be an inaugural cornhole tournament sponsored by Miller Lite. Call 814-837-7566 to get details and to enter. Outside music to be
presented by The Twisted Sisters of Wine and Rock and Roll, Tammy and Julie.
Organizers said all performances will be held outside in the pavilion/picnic area. There is no gate fee for any show. Along with the live music and wine tasting, the best festival food vendor in the area, B&N Concessions, will be in attendance all three days along with local artists displaying and selling their wares.
The festival will be held rain or shine.
