Officials on late Friday released the cause of death for a University of Pittsburgh at Bradford student found dead in his residence hall in late February.
Malik Isaiah Cox, a sophomore accounting major of Philadelphia, died on Feb. 25 from asphyxiation due to aspiration of food particles, which means food particles have been inhaled into the lungs.
“Many in our campus community are still grieving the passing of our student, Malik Cox; and many have been wondering about the cause of death,” Pitt-Bradford President Dr. Livingston Alexander said in a notice to the campus community.
The investigation into the student’s death included the Pitt-Bradford Campus Police, state police, McKean County Coroner Michael Cahill and McKean County District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer. A forensics team from the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in DuBois was also called to campus to investigate the scene.
