COUDERSPORT – Coudersport’s wrestling team celebrated its first Allegheny Mountain Wrestling League title in nearly four decades Tuesday night.
The Falcons put the finishing touches on a perfect 8-0 AMWL record with a 43-21 victory over visiting Sheffield.
“This was our first league title since 1987,” said John Bishel, Coudersport coach. “We began this year believing we had a shot at it and our wrestlers all wrestled well. From top to bottom, they were a pleasure to work with.
“I can’t really single out any one of them because when someone had an off night, someone else picked it up. This was a good night for our kids and our fans,” he added.
Leading the Falcons (11-3) win pins were Dustin Kudrick at 126, John Fitzgerald at 132 and Gage Arnold at 160. Teammate Eli Ayers recorded a major decision for the winners.
Individually, Arnold is now 22-5, Julian Smith is 21-5 and Nick Rogosta is 25-6.
“I want to thank Coach Rendos and Coach Storey for all their help this season and now we have to get ready for the post-season,” Bishel noted.
Sheffield got pins from Cole Holden at 113, Nick Knowles at 220 and Tavin Hooper at heavyweight.
