A police sergeant in Tioga County is facing allegations that he raped a woman in a Galeton, Potter County, home overnight between Thursday and Friday.
Kane Jordon Shope, 31, of 297 Germania St. Ext., Galeton, was jailed Friday night in lieu of $50,000 bail, Coudersport-based state police reported. Police said the incident occurred sometime between 9:30 p.m. Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday, and the victim is a 32-year-old Galeton woman.
Trooper Angela Bieber, a state police public information officer, confirmed Shope is a police sergeant with the Gaines Township Police Department.
Shope was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Kari McCleaft on charges of rape by forcible compulsion and two counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse by forcible compulsion, all first-degree felonies; aggravated assault without consent, a second-degree felony; two counts of simple assault and one count each of terroristic threats and unlawful restraint with holding another in a condition of involuntary servitude, all first-degree misdemeanors; and indecent assault without consent, a second-degree misdemeanor, court records stated.
Court records said an argument in the kitchen between the pair became physical.
They ended up in the bathroom, where he held her down and told her “how he was going to have sex with her,” court records read. When she tells him it won’t happen, “He tells the victim that she won’t be missed, and could easily be disposed of.”
Court records indicated he sexually assaulted her in the bathroom, made her stay in the room until he showered, then he made her sit on the floor there for about another hour, and he read text messages in her cell phone. He allowed her to get something to drink, then allegedly told her to lay in bed, where he sexually assaulted her again, then left.
Shope is incarcerated in Potter County Jail in Coudersport, and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing at 10:15 a.m. Jan. 15 before Magisterial District Judge Delores Weiss.
No attorney is listed for Shope.
