COUDERSPORT — The Potato City Inn, a motel located in Sweden Township, was damaged in an early morning fire on Sunday, but no one was injured.
Members of the Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the blaze at 6:30 a.m., arriving to find smoke in the east wing of the motel and all occupants evacuated and accounted for.
Fire Chief Bryan Phelps said the fire was discovered on the first floor in the middle of the building complex and suppression began immediately.
Phelps said firefighters ventilated the second floor and brought the fire under control quickly with no extension into any other part of the motel.
Crews then performed overhaul and removed smoke from the rest of the structure, according to Phelps.
Phelps said no one was injured in the blaze, but the building sustained damage estimated at between $6,000 and $10,000.
Fire officials determined the cause of the fire to be electrical in nature, according to Phelps.
He said 21 firefighters from his department were on scene approximately four hours, returning to station by 10:30 a.m. with two engines, a ladder and a tanker.
Members of the Roulette Volunteer Fire Department were on stand-by with an engine and ambulance at their station, according to Phelps.
