High turnout for ‘Star Wars’ advance showing in Bradford

Many children have been counting down the days until Christmas.

Not Hayden Warnick –– at least not yet. He had been crossing off the days until the showing of the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

And on Thursday night the ‘force awakened’ for the boy who went all out for the advanced showing of the film at the Main Street Movie House in Bradford. He dressed up as Kylo Ren, a dark warrior.

“He’s a huge fan (of Star Wars),” his mother, Melissa Singh of Bradford said, as the two of them stood in line.

Warnick said he donned the outfit in honor of viewing the movie that takes place 30 years after the Galactic Empire is defeated and focuses on Han Solo played by Harrison Ford and his allies taking on a threat from Kylo Ren and an army of Stormtroopers.

“I love the movies,” he said.

The same goes for anything Star Wars related, and a few years ago, he went to see a Star Wars celebratory event at Disney.

And he was sure to fall in love with the latest film.

His mother said she was excited about seeing the movie, too, especially being able to share the experience with her son.

The boy wasn’t the only one who dressed up for the movie on Thursday night in Bradford. Others turned out fitted in Star Wars garb, something that Main Street Movie House owner Todd Hennard said he enjoyed seeing.

For the local theater, Hennard said Star Wars will go in the record books as the largest movie attendance, at least in recent years. A week before the movie’s advanced showing, the Main Street Movie House saw 100 pre-sale tickets sold, one official said.

Several minutes before the first showing at 7 p.m. Thursday, a steady stream of people filtered into the movie theater.

One of those people was Bob Quinlan of Salamanca, N.Y. He said he remembered seeing the first Star Wars movie –– “A New Hope” –– when he was 9-years-old, and then watching the other films over the years.

Quinlan said he was looking forward to viewing the continuation of Star Wars.

As people came in for the movie, Hennard said he saw children, their parents and their grandparents, all sharing a common bond — Star Wars.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will continue to be shown at the Main Street Movie House in the coming days with today’s showings at 4, 7 and 9:30 p.m.
