    St. Bonaventure to host three-day Family Weekend

    ALLEGANY, N.Y. — St. Bonaventure University’s Family Weekend will take place Sept. 25-27.

    The event-packed three days allows students to share the Bonaventure experience with their families. Families can look forward to a weekend of fun, from athletic competitions and live entertainment, to the popular Bonagany street festival.

    “The purpose of Family Weekend is for students to invite their family members to campus to experience a taste of what life at St. Bonaventure is like,” said Abby Cohen, associate director of Intramurals, Club Sports and Student Engagement at the university.

    The schedule of events is as follows:

    Friday:

    5 p.m. — Polar Spray: In this fundraiser for Special Olympics New York, sponsored by the women’s swimming and diving team, participants will be doused with water from fire hoses while on the outdoor basketball courts adjacent to Reilly Center. Registration begins at 4 p.m.

    7 to 9 p.m. — Family Fun Night: Live music, lawn games, bonfires, s’mores and more on the front lawn of Hickey Dining Hall.

    7:30 p.m. — An Evening with Paul Moravec: Buffalo Chamber Players perform the music of Paul Moravec at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on campus. Tickets, at $20 for guests and $5 for students, available by calling the Quick Center Box Office at 716-375-2494.

    9 p.m. – Midnight — Evening in the Rathskeller: Enjoy billiards, bubble hockey, darts, shuffleboard and more.

    Saturday:

    8 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Family Weekend Golf: Enjoy a free round at the St. Bonaventure golf course. Carts are available for $13 (while they last). Students may register at the Richter Center starting Sept. 1.

    9:30 a.m. — Family Fun 2.5-mile Run/Walk: All family members invited to the event sponsored by St. Bonaventure alumni and parents. Registration begins at 9 a.m. near the Allegheny River Valley Trail by the tennis courts.

    10 a.m. — ROTC Fall Awards Ceremony: Reception to follow ceremony in the Quick Center’s Rigas Family Theater.

    10 a.m. — The Career Connection: Question-and-answer session with Career and Professional Readiness Center team members in the Dresser-Rand Executive Lecture Room (109) of the William E. and Ann L. Swan Business Center. Learn about career and professional development resources available to SBU students, specifically the new Competitive EDGE Certificate program.

    10 to 10:30 a.m. — SBU Admissions 101: Interested in creating your own St. Bonaventure experience? If you’re in high school (or the parent of a high schooler), attend our presentation to learn how you can have an extraordinary journey of your own: Meyer Family Classroom (103), Swan Business Center.

    10:30 to 11:30 a.m. — The College Adjustment: Student Wellness Center director Dr. Roger Keener talks about the first month and what to expect next: First Niagara Corporate Seminar Room (205), Swan Business Center.

    10:30 to 11:30 a.m. — Alumni Reception: All St. Bonaventure alumni and their families are invited to a reception with the Office of Alumni Services in the Athletics Hall of Fame in Reilly Center.

    11 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Bonagany Celebration: Help celebrate the university’s friendship with the community of Allegany during this festival of music, food, art and fun on Main Street in the village of Allegany.

    11 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Mount Irenaeus Open House: The Franciscan mountain retreat, aka The Mountain, hosts reflection and prayer services at 1 and 3 p.m. Find driving directions atwww.mounti.com.

    Noon — Men’s Club Rugby vs. Iona: The Bonnies battle on the Marra Athletics Fields Complex.

    Noon to 1 p.m. — Phi Eta Sigma Induction: Ceremonies in the Robert R. Jones Trustees Room, Doyle Hall, marking induction of students into Phi Eta Sigma, the nation’s oldest and largest honor society for first-year college and university students. An honors lunch follows in Doyle Dining Hall.

    1 p.m. — Women’s Club Soccer: The women meet Hobart on the grass field behind the Marra Athletics Fields Complex.

    2 p.m. — Honors Tea with the President: Invited first-year honors students and a family member will meet the honors faculty, administrators and University President Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F.; Quick Center loft.

    3 p.m. — Women’s Club Rugby: Watch the women take on a squad from Rochester Institute of Technology, Marra Athletics Fields Complex.

    3 p.m. — Men’s Club Soccer: The men face SUNY Fredonia on the grass field behind the Marra Athletics Fields Complex.

    4:30 p.m — Family Weekend Mass: University Chapel, Doyle Hall.

    7 p.m. to 2 a.m. — Evening in the Rathskeller: Enjoy billiards, bubble hockey, darts, shuffleboard and more.

    8 p.m. — Family Feud: Students and families are invited to play this classic game show or just watch the exciting action. Sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, this event takes place in the Quick Center.

    Sunday:

    3 p.m. — Men’s Club Soccer: The men’s club soccer team faces Niagara at the Marra Athletics Fields Complex.
