A Bradford man was arrested on Tuesday after he allegedly assaulted a female, then attacked police officers who subsequently came to arrest him, breaking the leg of one officer.
Court records said Mark Alan Andress, 50, of 2 Bushnell St., Apt. 215, was arraigned on Tuesday afternoon before Magisterial District Judge Dominic Cercone on charges of aggravated assault, a first-degree felony; resisting arrest and two counts of simple assault, all first-degree misdemeanors; and harassment, a summary charge, court records indicated.
On Tuesday morning, Andress allegedly choked an unidentified female and tried to push her toward an open window that had a screen in it, court records said.
Bradford City Police were dispatched to the alleged domestic incident at 7:09 a.m., but when they got to the scene, they learned Andress had fled; however, they found him leaving an elevator, and he began shouting at police and the female, court records stated.
Court records indicated Andress was aggressive toward police who tried to handcuff him, turning around and taking part in hand-to-hand fighting with them. One officer will require surgery for fractures he suffered to his leg during the altercation. Andress also allegedly put one of the officers in a chokehold. The officers were not named in court documents.
Once he was in a police car, Andress said, “I told the officer not to (expletive) with me,” then he looked at the officer who was with him and told him he used to be a U.S. Marine, court records read. At the station, Andress allegedly texted the female victim twice, frightening her by writing, “I’ll be out soon.”
Andress was committed to McKean County Jail in Smethport in lieu of $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court on July 23.
