LUBBOCK, Texas — St. Bonaventure junior Thad Johnson has been named one of 10 finalists for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award.
Johnson, from Frewsburg, N.Y., put together a superb junior season. The third baseman led the Bonnies in hitting with a .354 average, 67 hits, 13 doubles, three home runs and 31 RBI.
On the mound, Johnson saved eight games and had an ERA of 1.44 in 18 appearances, all in relief. He finished fifth in the Atlantic 10 Conference in batting and fourth in saves.
Presented by the National College Baseball Hall of Fame, the award recognizes student-athletes who excel both as position players and as pitchers.
The Olerud Award is named for the former Washington State University standout who achieved success both as a first baseman and left-handed pitcher during the late 1980s and who was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.
The award will be presented as part of the Hall of Fame’s Night of Champions celebration June 28-29 in Lubbock.
