PORTVILLE — No injuries were reported after a former roller rink on the outskirts of Portville collapsed.
Emergency response personnel, including those from area police and fire departments, were dispatched 504 Portville-Ceres Road around 10:30 a.m. today. Crews from National Grid and National Fuel were dispatched to the site and turned off the building’s utilities.
More than half the approximate 11,400 square-foot building came down, giving way to the weight of snow on its roof. Several items, including floor mats from inside the building, were strewn around the immediate area surrounding the rubble.
With the exception of coolers and lighting and heating equipment, there was nothing of value in the building, said Jim Bloise III, who bought the property in 2005.
“The important thing is that no one was hurt,” Bloise said.
The building, constructed in late 1970s, was once home to the Double C Roller Rink. It became a Family Dollar and, up until last year, was home to a Bargain Outlet. Bloise noted he was currently in the process of selling the property.
