The Pitt-Bradford swim teams suffered defeats to the Alfred University Saxons on Saturday afternoon. The men fell 113-85, while the women dropped a 126-67 decision.
Despite the defeats, both sides saw their fair share of first-place finishes. The men claimed a total of five events, and the women grabbed the top spot in three of their events.
A win in the 400 medley relay for the men got them rolling early. The group consisting of Corey Koss, Jeff Cattoni, Alex Renwick and Felipe Suntaxi clocked in a time of 3:39.50 to jump out to an early lead in the competition. The time also set a school and pool record for the Panthers.
Koss notched his second victory of the afternoon, this time in the 400 IM, in the 10th event. He outswam the competition with a time of 4:31.04, by nearly 18 seconds.
In the 200 back, Koss was back at it, taking home his third victory of the day. He touched the wall with a time of 2:00.17 that was six seconds ahead of the next finisher. The time re-broke a record he recently set in a previous meet.
Cattoni came up big for the Panthers in the 200 breast. He finished five seconds ahead of Alfred’s Jeff Rowland for a big win with a time of 2:26.67.
The final victory for the men came in the 400 free relay, the day’s final event. Pitt-Bradford’s Connor Baughman, Richie Brand, Stephen Burk and Jason Fan defeated the Saxons with a mark of 4:20.92.
For the women, Elizabeth Prager’s victory in the 1,000 free gave the Panthers their first win in the third event. Prager finished with a time of 11:54.43 to grab her lone victory of the day.
Camille Follman edged the competition in the 200 back to grab a win in the 15th event with a mark of 2:22.57. The Panthers’ 400 free relay squad consisting of Ann Confer, Follman, Alyssa Vanasco and Catherine DeZort secured the final win for the women in the last event with a time of 4:46.04.
“This was another record setting meet for the men,” said UPB head coach Ed Bahan. “The 400 medley relay school and pool records were broken and the women re-broke the 400 medley time from last weekend. Corey Koss had a great day. This is 11 new school records this season and they have not rested yet.”
Pitt-Bradford now gears up to face Washington and Jefferson in Bradford next Nov. 22, at 1 p.m.
