In Bradford, the sport of chess is off to a great start as the 24th annual Bradford Businessmen’s Chess League kicked off on Wednesday evening.
Each team will face every other team in its division during the season, which runs through March 11, 2015.
At the end of first round action held at School Street Elementary School, Hamlin Bank and last year’s championship team, Smith’s Awards & Trophies, are tied for first place in the varsity division. In the junior varsity division, Burns & Burns holds first, and Dr. Gonzalez is just half a point behind in second. Edmond Chevrolet/Ed Shults Toyota and The Pharmacy at Union Square are tied for third place.
Other varsity teams rankings are E&M Engineers & Surveyors, Ambit Energy, Hill Memorial and Hennard’s Construction, all tied for second place.
The remaining junior varsity teams are ranked as follows: Lang Surveying, Williams Agency, Tasta Pizza and Eschrich Construction, tied for fourth place; Bradford Health Center and KK-Tastefully Simple Team Manager, tied for fifth place; Dexter’s Service Center, sixth place; and Smith’s Watch & Clock Shop, seventh place.
