ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — St. Bonaventure women’s basketball and head coach Jim Crowley announced Wednesday the signing of Keely Fresh, McKenna Maycock and Erin Wood to National Letters of Intent to play for the Bonnies in the fall of 2015.
“This group gives us size, shooting, athleticism and competitiveness,” said Crowley. “Any time you can add those elements to your program, you have a great chance to improve your club and that what’s we believe we did with this class.”
Fresh, a 5-8 guard from Lexington, Va., is a 2015 McDonald’s All-American Nominee after averaging 18.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.5 steals per game as a junior at Rockbridge County High School. The National Honor Society member is an ESPN Three Star Recruit and was an attendee of the USA U-16 Olympic Trials in Colorado Springs. She was named All-District, All-Conference, All-West and 2014 All-State by Atlantic South Publications.
She holds the Rockbridge single-game scoring record with 37 points and also holds the school’s career record with 113 three-point field goals. Fresh also is a member of the Boo Williams Richmond AAU team that set a record of five-straight Virginia State Championships.
“Keely is a well rounded guard who can certainly shoot it but also has a nice game off the bounce, said Crowley. She has had great success for a high level AAU team and knows how to win against very good competition. Her work ethic and skill set will be great assets to our program.”
Maycock averaged 30.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game in her junior year at Randolph Central High School in Randolph, N.Y.
The 5-9 guard was awarded First Team All-Western New York and First Team All-State honors and shared Player of the Year in Class C with St. Bonaventure’s freshman Miranda Drummond.
Maycock has improved her points, rebounds and assists total in all three years through high school and surpassed 2,000 career points during her junior campaign. The National Honor Society member is also three sport athlete at Randolph competing in basketball, volleyball and track and field.
“People around the area know all about McKenna and what a special athlete she is and we are very excited about that,” Crowley said. “However, we are most excited about the competitor and learner that McKenna is. Her teams have won a lot of games and she has gotten better every year. We can’t wait to work with her and see where she can go.”
Wood, a 6-2 forward from Noblesville, Ind., was named to All-Conference and All-County as she tallied 11.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game as a junior at Noblesville High School. She led her squad as a freshman and sophomore in blocks, while also averaging 5.0 and 8.0 points per game, respectively. Wood is a member of the National Honor Society.
“Erin give us size and presence inside and we are confident that her best basketball is ahead of her, said Crowley. “She is a player that has a solid work ethic and a good capacity for improvement. We like what she can do defensively and see positives in how her offensive game will translate to how we play.”
St. Bonaventure begins the 2014-15 regular season Friday at home against Big 4 rival Canisius. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
