UPB bowlers 25th at invite

TEANECK, N.J. — The Pitt-Bradford bowling team wrapped up play at the Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational with a 25th place finish Sunday.

Senior Sarah Foley finished 10th overall in the competition for All Star status with a 205.55 average through 11 games.

Host Fairleigh Dickinson University claimed first place with a total pinfall of 14,827 and an overall record of 10-4.

Foley opened the competition with a game-high 253 and averaged a 223.2 for five games on day one. The Panthers bowled five traditional games, or Team format, and finished with a record of 1-4. Pitt-Bradford fell to St. Francis Brooklyn (935-637), Maryland Eastern Shore (813-676), Long Island University-Brooklyn (874-707) and St. Peter’s (746-686).

The lone victory on day one came in the final game versus Coppin State. The Panthers registered a 731-596 victory for a total pinfall on day one of 3,347. Behind Foley’s 223.2 average was Haley Ward with a 170.8.

On day two, the Panthers came away with a 1-4 record, 2-8 overall. Foley again paced the Panthers attack, but managed to finish with just a 190.83 average. Ward was second again with a 167.5, while Amanda Harris finished with a 143.83 through five games.

The Panthers suffered defeats to Delaware State (883-614), Adelphi (930-669), host Fairleigh Dickinson (1095-699) and Monmouth (834-626). Pitt-Bradford tallied its second victory of the invitational with a 740-682 win over Caldwell in the fourth game.

Heading into the final day, Pitt-Bradford sat in 24th place out of 26 schools participating, with a total pinfall of 7,433. All teams competed in the Baker format Sunday. Baker is a best four-of-seven style.

The Panthers suffered back-to-back defeats to Coppin State (1001-595) and Caldwell (933-914). Both games took the full seven games to finish. The Panthers finished with an overall record of 2-10 at FDU, and a total pinfall of 9,723.

Pitt-Bradford is back on the lanes Nov. 11, hosting Medaille at Byllye Lanes at 3 p.m.
