Can the North rebound in Week 2?

    Talk about dominant.

The AML South flexed its collective muscles in Week 1, outscoring their northern counterparts 169-16 in five crossover games. Port Allegany was the only team to score from the North in those games in their 48-16 loss to Curwensville.

Otto-Eldred also had a tough go in Week 1, losing to state-ranked Sharpsville 46-8 in a non-conference contest.

    That’s a grand total of 215-24.

The North will have its shot at redemption, however, as five more crossover games dot the schedule tonight.

    — — —

Bradford looked poised to win its season opener against St. Marys, only to see the Dutchmen come back in the second half for a 19-14 win.

The Owls defense was solid and their backs, specifically Alex Colosimo, looked explosive at times.

The key will be if Bradford can get consistent line play. That will be a key not for just tonight’s game against Oil City, but the entire season.

    — — —

Well, it was Week 1 for Ron and I as well, as I went 14-6 and he finished 12-8. This week, we add the New York schools to the mix. Away we go.

    ANDY’S PICKS

    Friday’s Games

    Oil City at Bradford

Bradford will have to get physical if they want to beat the Oilers.

OC running back John Trbusich tallied 189 yards on 31 carries and three touchdowns in the Oilers 37-15 season-opening win against Corry, prompting coach Matt LeVerde to tell The Derrick:  “Boy did our offensive line and tight ends play really well.”

Quarterback Jackson McFall also threw for 79 yards, including a pair of touchdown passes to Morgan Hadley.

Bradford, meanwhile, must be able to sustain drives in order to win. The Owls were able to take advantage of a pair of turnovers to take the lead, but the Dutch were able to hold them in check after that … Oil City by 7

    Smethport at Kane

Kane outlasted Cameron County in a 13-0 defensive slugfest, while Smethport comes off the wrong end of a 38-0 shutout against Brockway.

I think the Wolves will be fine offensively, and Smethport is still in a state of flux after being without five starters due to suspension last week … Kane by 13

Port Allegany at Elk County Catholic

The Crusaders were very impressive last week in a 32-0 win over Coudersport, dominating in every facet of the game.

Port Allegany, meanwhile, had its hands full against Curwensville and looks to make strides against ECC.

I think the Crusaders put the rest of the AML on notice last week that they are a different team then they were a season ago and I like them again this week … ECC by 10

    Otto-Eldred at Curwensville

It’s hard to imagine a tougher schedule out of the gate then the one O-E has. They come off a home date with Sharpsville with a trip down to Curwensville.

Week 1 was a stiff challenge to open the season for the Terrors and Week 2 isn’t much easier. Still, however, I think they give Curwensville a challenge … Curwensville by 8

    Coudersport at Brockway

Brockway was impressive in their Week 1 win over Smethport, with do-it-all offensive weapon Anthony Benson scoring a touchdown rushing, receiving and on a punt return all in the first half.

Coudersport will look to regroup after a tough loss to Elk County Catholic … Brockway by 21

    Cameron County at Ridgway

An intriguing matchup. Cameron County’s defense went toe-to-toe with Kane, while Ridgway is coming off an explosive offensive performance in which backs Cole Myers and JP Cerroni each went over 100 yards rushing.

For my money, the best crossover matchup of the week … Ridgway by 6

    St. Marys at A-C Valley

I expect the Dutch to cruise in this one … St. Marys by 21
