OLEAN, N.Y. — Top-seeded Caleb Edwards advanced to the semifinals of the 7th Annual Betty Bergreen Junior Match-Play Chapionship following a pair of wins Thursday on his home course, the Bartlett Country Club.
Edwards defeated Brandon Whalen 8 and 6 in the morning and TJ Schlimm from Laurel Mill 3 and 2 in the afternoon to move into Saturday’s semifinals.
Josh Roselli from Laurel Mill, the No. 4 seed, posted the low round of the day, shooting a one-under-par 69. He also advanced to the semi-finals with wins over Cameron Kockler from Coudersport (8 and 6) in the morning then in the afternoon defeated defending Bergreen champion, Wil Lockwood from Moonbrook, 2 and 1.
Wil Simons from Bartlett and Cameron Eddy from Holiday Valley are the other two semifinalists.
Simons defeated Alex Fisher from Holiday Valley 2 up in the morning then eliminated last year’s Bergreen runnerup, Nolan Ditcher from Cardinal Hills, 2 and 1 in the afternoon. Eddy, meanwhile, beat Evan Piganelli from Pine Acres 6 and 5 in the morning, and then had to birdie the 19th hole to defeat Dylan Glatz from Moonbrook, 1 up, in their afternoon match.
The semifinals on Saturday will match Edwards vs. Roselli and Simons vs. Eddy.
