SALAMANCA, N.Y. — The Seneca Allegany Casino & Hotel in Salamanca will welcome the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales on Aug. 6.
The event is free and open to the public, and will take place from noon to 2 p.m. outside the casino resort. The eight horses in the team — complete with a hitch, carriage and Dalmatian dog — will be available for up-close viewing and photos.
The Clydesdales first made an appearance in 1933 and heralded a new era of prosperity for Anheuser-Busch. They represent a “living embodiment of America’s great industrial spirit” and are a perennial fan-favorite among Super Bowl television ads. To qualify for one of the traveling hitches, each member of the team must stand at least 72 inches at the shoulder when fully mature, weigh between 1,800 and 2,300 pounds, have a reddish brown (bay) coat, four white legs, a white blaze, and a black mane and tail.
The Clydesdales last visited Western New York during Memorial Day weekend, including a stop at Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel in Niagara Falls. Large crowds gathered for photos and videos of the “gentle giants,” which made several trips around the casino’s perimeter as well as quick journey down nearby Old Falls Street in the heart of downtown.
The public is encouraged to arrive early for optimal viewing and interaction. Plenty of free parking is available at Seneca Allegany Casino & Hotel along outdoor lots and the hotel parking ramp. Additional information about the event will be available soon at the website www.senecaalleganycasino.com.
