Katie Neidich, owner of Studio B Dance Academy, has received her license to teach Zumba.
Neidich completed a one-day, eight-hour training in Pittsburgh that consisted of a masters class and several lectures.
The license allows her to be an official Zumba instructor.
Zumba classes feature Latin and international music and Latin dance steps, including merengue, salsa, cumbia, and reggaeton. Zumba can be done by men and women of any age who want a interesting cardio workout. The intensity changes throughout, so students may push their boundaries at points. Students can burn between 350 and 900 calories per class.
Zumba classes have become very popular throughout the country, but many classes are not being taught by licensed Zumba instructors or instructors who have continued their training each year. According to Zumba Fitness LLC, the only time that a Zumba instructor is truly certified is if they are nationally certified from organizations such as the American Council on Exercise or the American Fitness Association of America. Only certified instructors have the right to legally use to Zumba name to advertise classes. As with any fitness activities, taking classes from uncertified teachers can result in injuries. Studio B Dance Academy is now able to officially able to offer Zumba classes.
