Recently I received a call from a woman who claimed I had $7,000 grant money to be sent to me from the federal government. The woman had a Haitian accent.
I was to call a Washington, D.C., phone number to verify my personal information so I would receive this grant.
I knew there was no such grant as the government isn’t going to give out grants to any single person. This was a scam, and I would like to warn anybody not to call that number in Washington, D.C.
If you do call, you will be a target for identify theft, and it could cost everything you have. If you have caller I.D., you can screen such calls.
Just remember, the government takes — it doesn’t give.
