Confer quads, Bradford girls too much for Kane

KANE — A quadruple victory effort from Ann Confer helped the Bradford High girls track team to a 96-53 win over Kane Tuesday.

Confer won the 100, long jump, high jump and was part of the 400 relay team that also included Liz Coppella, Haley Vinelli and freshman Bri Wells.

In addition, Ali Rinfrette tripled for the Lady Owls (2-0), winning both hurdle races and teaming with Wells, Vinelli and Kristen Gardner to win the 1600 relay.

“It was a good team win and we had many nice performances,” said Bradford coach Larry Stillman. “Ann looked good in all her events and Haley and Bri ran very solid races in the 100, 200 and the relays.”

Kane’s Morgan Nicholson was also a triple event winner, sweeping the throws (shot put, discus, javelin), including a heave of 132’10” in the javelin.

For Bradford, Gardner also won the 800, Coppella the pole vault and Makaila Banka the 1600.

“In the distance races, Makaila, Riley (Crissman) and Kristen had a lot of support from Angel Hutchings, who was second in both the 1600 and 800,” noted Stillman.

Other notable performances for Bradford included Ashly Colosimo (800), Katelynn Hartman (3rd, 1600; 2nd, 3200), Rachel Borland (2nd, 100 hurdles), Carli Bennett (3rd in long and triple jumps), Chelsea Madore (2nd, javelin, 112’6”), Payton Ambrose (3rd, javelin and shot put) and Catherine Schuster (3rd, discus).

“Liz had a good night in the pole vault and a personal best (32’6”) in the triple jump and Chelsea Madore had a great javelin throw,” Stillman said. “We are making progress and just need to keep improving each week.”

The Lady Owls return to action Saturday at the Harbor Creek Invitational.
