New Bradford Mall owners purchase Kmart store property; look to restock tenants at mall

The new owner of the Bradford Mall is reporting the final portion of the 230,000-square-foot property, the former Kmart store, was recently purchased by the new company.

Jim Miller Sr., MBC Properties owner and development partner of the Real Estate Division of Miller Brothers Co., is reporting the company acquired the former 90,000-square-foot Kmart parcel on Feb. 3 from a company in New York City. He said the company is reviewing a business proposal for a tenant to occupy a 45,000-square-foot portion in that store.

Miller said work crews have been at the former Kmart facility cleaning it out and readying it for future activities.

News of the mall’s purchase by MBC of Schuylkill Haven was announced in mid-December. The company had purchased the property Oct. 31 from Brixmor Property Group Inc.

Other than the Kmart acquisition, Miller said the company has six leads for business proposals, but no solid commitments at present.

“I believe there are some positive things going on,” Miller said of the entire property. “I think it will be successful, we just have to take some time to get some things cleaned and ready” for potential tenants.

The owner had previously reported the company is open to any variety of tenants, including retail and office uses.

Included in the purchase were the out-parcels that house Northwest Savings Bank and the Turn ‘N Burn cafe. The Kmart parcel was purchased separately.

Company officials have reported this is the first mall purchased by the business, but owns small strip malls and numerous stand-alone, single-user retail sites. The company also has other office buildings across Pennsylvania and in six other states. The mall acquisition is the first purchase for the company in northwestern Pennsylvania.

Company officials further noted they are now members of the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce, and report the local organization has been very helpful to them.

Tenants currently located in the mall include Tractor Supply, the Dollar Tree, Big Lots, Verizon, Label Shopper and Peebles.

The 50-year-old mall, which has been up for sale for several years, is located at one of the busiest sections of the Tuna Valley along East Main Street in Foster Township.
