INDEPENDENCE DAY: Don Ross has been writing poems and sharing them with regulars at the Smethport Senior Center for years. Whatever the topic, says senior center program director Jill Simms-Yingling, Don has probably written a poem about it.

She dsecribes Don as “our resident poet.” Just since March of 2010, he has brought in more than 300 of his handwritten pieces, and this week wrote one that is appropriate for today, Independence Day.
