EMPORIUM — A Muncy man was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Route 120 in Lumber Township around 3:30 p.m. Monday.
John LaRose, 50, of Muncy, lost his life after the car he was driving lost traction on the wet highway and spun and slid into oncoming traffic, according to Emporium-based state police.
Police said the car skidded across the soaked surface of Route 120 (CCC Memorial Highway) in Lumber Township, and was hit by a sport-utility vehicle operated by Stephen Zoschg, 62, of Emporium, that was traveling in the opposite direction.
LaRose was wearing a seatbelt, but suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Cameron County Coroner Ted Walters, according to police.
Police said Zoschg and his passenger, Laura Zoschg, 58, of Emporium, were also wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and suffered moderate injuries for which they were transported by Emporium Ambulance Service to Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys for treatment.
Both vehicles sustained severe damage and were towed from the scene, according to police.
Route 120 was closed in both directions until about 8 p.m. Monday, according to police.
Police said they were assisted at the scene by members of the Emporium Volunteer Fire Department and personnel from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
