Three students, all graduating summa cum laude from Bradford Area High School at 7 p.m. June 6, have been chosen to represent the Class of 2013 as speakers at graduation.
Chris Borland will present the class welcome. He is a member of the varsity soccer team and a captain of the varsity swim team. He enjoys music, as evidenced by his participation in marching band, All-State Choir and drumline. Composing music is his favorite hobby, and he enjoys writing and playing songs with his student-run jazz group, The Birch St. Band.
Borland plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh main campus to study bioengineering, but plans to continue his artistic pursuits in his adult life as well.
Tessa Rhinehart will give the class address. She is involved in many activities at the high school, including being a four-year member of the school’s Key Club, instrumental and vocal music programs and Model United Nations team. Her academic and leadership honors include earning the distinction of “National Advanced Placement Scholar,” selection as a National Merit Scholarship recipient, election as the 2012-13 Governor of the Pennsylvania District of Key Club and selection as the 2013 YWCA Young Woman of Promise.
Rhinehart will attend Swarthmore College in Swarthmore to pursue her interests in engineering, public health and public policy.
Montgomry Burgoon will present the class farewell. She is the daughter of Andrew and Beth Burgoon. She is a National Honor Society member as well as a two-year member of the Bradford High School Spanish Club. She was also the Class of 2013 treasurer for three years and the student body treasurer for one year. She has earned varsity letters in four sports.
After high school, Burgoon plans to attend Ohio State University to major in public health with a minor in Spanish language with the goal of becoming a pediatrician.
The high school baccalaureate will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. A senior recognition program will be held at 7 p.m. June 4.
