Bradford Area High School will open its doors to the community, for its second Spring Community Showcase to be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on April 30.
The community is invited to visit the high school and view the academic activities, extracurricular activities and tour the facilities that the students experience each day.
Each academic department will have displays and interactive presentations of the highlights and achievements of their programs.
Bradford Area High School Principal David Ray talked of some of the reasons that the showcase was started: “We have always had parent night as a chance for parents to come in and see the school, but this isn’t just for students and parents. This is a community day. We really would like to see local business people and anybody that wants to come in and see what’s going on in the school. The academics are the heart of what we do and it’s a chance to see what the students have done in an interactive way.”
Ray described a few of examples of what sort of activities attendees can expect to participate in with students and staff.
“Our science department will put on mini-labs that people do or people can stop to take a look at the labs that students have already done. The math department will be hosting a math-based game of “Keystone Algebra Jeopardy.” Some of our clubs and organizations are also doing activities and displays like the Model United Nations team and Student Council and the girls basketball team is doing a free throw shooting clinic,” Ray said.
Ray said that some of the student’s graduation projects will be available for viewing in the library and there will also be refreshments in the cafeteria.
Ray estimated that about 350 people came to the inaugural event last year.
“This year we would like to double that number,” he said.
