THANK YOU: “I am writing this letter out of gratitude. I wanted to bring to light to those readers the love and care of the people of Bradford. Believe it or not those people do exist. At this time of year, it’s really difficult for some people to provide for their families, let alone provide them an adequate Christmas. The ELF Fund was created as a one time thing by a very generous man and has flourished into what it is today.”
“A few years ago I had to swallow my pride and ask for help to provide a decent Christmas for my child as I had recently lost my job. I was giving my son hand-me-downs that had been wrapped. I found out about the program and applied for the gifts they were able to give.
“Instead of what I thought my child would receive a local company adopted my family, meaning they would be giving to my ENTIRE family not just my son. In that we all received gifts, clothing, food and household goods I otherwise would have went without.
“The people who put their time and effort into this program do it out of the kindness of their own heart. They expect nothing in return. Even as I try to give back and help them for the things they have done for me, they continue to give. It is truly amazing the love and care they have for people that they often don’t even know.
“If we could all give each other even a portion of this the world would be such a better place.
“Once again, these are some amazing people and they deserve more than I can ever show them for their kindness. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”
POST SCRIPT: We are printing this letter today even though we usually shy away from thank yous, particularly if they are unsigned. But the ELF Fund, which The Era sponsors, just distributed its Christmas gifts yesterday. It is an arduous undertaking particularly since it is operated entirely by volunteers.
And, of course, none of it would be possible without the extremely generous community called Bradford. The number of gifts we receive is staggering!
It’s a good place to call home, particularly over the holidays.
