COUGAR TALE: We’ve met several relatives of Claude Mollander
Jr., the little boy from Kane whose dog saved him from an attack by
a mountain lion in 1946.

Claude’s story has emerged as part of our recent ongoing columns
about the wolf farm run by Dr. E.H. McCleery outside of Kane
starting in about 1920. The wolves became part of a roadside
attraction which raised money to help pay their upkeep. At one
point, McCleery added mountain lions to boost attendance — and one
got loose on a cold winter’s day.
