BUCKTAILS BATTLE: When we left Thomas Kane yesterday he was with
his raw recruits now known as the “Bucktails.”
Kane’s initial attempt to teach his men close order drill and
traditional battle tactics had been an utter failure and forced him
to come up with a new way to do battle. “They coordinated maneuver,
firepower and surprise into a nearly foolproof way of demoralizing
and devastating an enemy,” according to a history of the Bucktails
written many years ago by Donald W. Lang.
