CAMP HILL – Tate Slaven, a Bradford Area High School senior, has
been awarded a $1,000 academic scholarship provided by the Big 33
Scholarship Foundation, underwritten by the PNC Foundation.
Slaven has received various honors and awards throughout her
high school career, including the PRIDE award, Scholar Athlete
Award, and has been named MVP of the varsity softball team. Her
many extra-curricular activities include softball, student council,
National Honor Society, varsity cheerleading, horseback riding and
volunteering in her community.
In the fall, Slaven will be attending Westminster College where
she will major in Biology with a concentration in Pre-Veterinary
medicine. The PNC Big 33 Scholarship Award will allow her to focus
more on school, instead of worrying about the cost.
Slaven is among 10 students from Pennsylvania and Ohio to be
selected for the PNC Big 33 Academic Scholarships. The scholarships
were awarded based on overall academic excellence, community
service, leadership ability and civic involvement. Each recipient
will also receive a letter of congratulations and an award
certificate from PNC.
The 53rd Annual PNC Big 33 Football Classic will be played on
June 19 at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey. The game will showcase
the best and brightest high school athletes from Pennsylvania and
Ohio. The football game helps to promote the focus of the Big 33
Scholarship Foundation, which is to help young people attain their
dreams of higher education regardless of athletic ability.
For 53 years, the Big 33 organization has been committed to
helping thousands of high school students experience the value of a
higher education. Since 1985, more than $3 million has been raised
for academic scholarships.
