SALUTE!: “Last May, while driving down Derrick Road, I came upon
a two-mile stretch that had been decorated with American flags. A
flag had been placed on every telephone pole lining each side of
the road. What a pleasant surprise, to say the least.”
That’s the word today from Katie Greene of Bradford who
continues, “It not only looked very nice, but I was impressed that
someone had taken the time, effort, and money to do this.”
“Confused as to why only that particular stretch of road in
Foster Township received the flags, I called the township to see
who was responsible for this patriotic act. After a bit of
investigation, it was discovered that the township had not posted
the flags, and they weren’t aware of the anonymous patriot’s
identity.
“As summer came and went, the flags suffered the effects of the
elements, and just as mysteriously as they had appeared, they were
removed.
“I remained puzzled, as I had never found out who hung the
flags.
“Then, about a week ago, I saw Jason Campbell, the owner of the
Model T, and one of his employees, hanging the flags along that
same two-mile stretch of Derrick Road. Finally, the mystery was
solved!
“Watching his anonymous act of patriotism, I realized how seldom
it is that we see people taking the time to recognize our freedom
and the people who fight so hard to defend it. Jason deserves an
enthusiastic thank you from our entire community, not only for
paying tribute to our country, but also for making Bradford look a
little nicer in the process.”
GOOD IDEA?: We certainly can understand why the sale of body
parts is prohibited in this country. However, we cannot figure out
why the family of an organ donor could not be offered a nominal sum
to at least help with burial costs.
Meanwhile, we’ve been reading some very encouraging developments
about kidney transplants. From what we’ve read, the newest method
allows a kidney to be removed from a live donor via a laparascopy
rather than through the normal surgical procedure. Recovery time is
so short that donors can return to work in just 2-3 weeks.
