OLEAN ANGLE: Olean native Paul J. Kenyon recently published “You
Know They’re Here,” an account of his year of experiences at an
allegedly haunted house in Hinsdale, N.Y., during the
mid-1970s.
The 529-page paperback brings to life people and places in the
Olean area and “is lovingly dedicated to my dear and missed friend:
Father Alphonsus Trabold O.F.M. 1925-2005,” a friar at St.
Bonaventure known for his expertise in the area of paranormal
investigation and a support to the Dandy family during their
travails as owners of the house.
Kenyon and five others continue to investigate the area, as he
explains in the epilogue: “… gathering information by way of EVP,
EMF detectors and photography in the hopes of tying everything
together to form a conclusion of the paranormal activity. It’s a
time consuming process, and there are nights when our group will be
barraged by phenomena from every angle. Other nights, we sit and
stare at the darkness that surrounds and engulfs our existence –
hearing, seeing or sensing nothing.”
Based on his experiences and understanding, Kenyon says “Not
only are there strong energies apparent at the house, but the
entire area, much of the Haskell Flats is affected.”
Kenyon grew up in Olean, moved to Arizona, and returned to his
hometown in 1999.
On a related note, “Echoes of a Haunting Revised,” by house
occupant Clara Miller was released as a 186-page paperback last
year. It is a re-issue with some material not in the original book
about the Dandys’ occupancy of the house from 1970-1974.

Federal Employees — which includes people from McKean County and
the surrounding area — which will be one of 100 agencies and
organizations participating in a celebration on the National Mall
in Washington, D.C.
Closer to home, the City of Bradford and McKean County
government is also expected to recognize this special week.
