A little bit of good news came at a work session Tuesday for the
Bradford City Board of Health — some owners of blighted buildings
are planning to tear them down at their own expense.
Board of Health special counsel Greg Henry, Code Enforcement
Officer George Corignani and legal assistant Cindy Masters
addressed the Board, which is made up of members of Bradford City
Council.
“This is the first time in the 15 years we’ve been doing this that
we’re starting to get the owners to tear their own properties
down,” Corignani said. He said six of the 20 properties on the
demolition list, so far, are set to be demolished by the owners
instead of at the city’s expense.
Henry gave a list of many properties to the board of health
members, along with a packet of papers a few inches thick
explaining the legal steps taken in just one case. The case
resulted in the owner demolishing the property, and will likely
mean a financial settlement to the city for fines.
