NEEDLE NEWS: We owe a special debt of gratitude to the cancer
center at Bradford Regional Medical Center which knitted a stack of
scarves last Christmas for clients served by our Era’s Less
Fortunate (ELF) Fund program.

They’re busy at it again this year, but have run into a problem
— or, shall we say, “snag.” They’ve run out of yarn.

Kimberly Hatch writes, “We have a lot of scarves already made
but can’t move further into our project.”

If you’d like to donate some yarn, please drop it off on the
second floor of oncology. Our thanks, in advance.

LOOK UP: Phyllis McNeil of Turtlepoint reported Thursday that
the first bluebird had arrived. The same one returns every year,
she said. Two red-breasted grosbeaks had made it the previous day.
We had various other reports, too, about robins — sometimes in
flocks — having been spotted in McKean County.

One of our robin reporters from West Branch also passed along
some gas prices from other parts of the country: San Antonio,
$2.59; Tampa, $2.29.

FREECYLING: Our idea to have a day in Bradford where people can
get rid of unwanted items at a “free” flea sale drew some
response.

Jill Alane Moore tells us Bradford already has a group which
operates on a similar principle called “freecyle.” You can find out
more at “groups.yahoo.com/group/bradfordpafreecycle/”

“You have to be a member of the yahoo group to participate but
with this you can clean out what you don’t need or want, post it on
bradfordpafreecycle and people who want your items can pick them up
from you. Nothing like getting stuff hauled away for free. I’ve
gotten rid of a ton of stuff using this method, from clothes, to a
woodstove, to an old but usable toilet.

“Just an idea for those who will be spring cleaning. If you
aren’t familiar with computers, get a friend who is to post things
for you. Piece of cake!”

ONE MORE: Loretta Ferro has a postscript to our items about
bands playing concerns in Bradford: “The band Cactus played at the
High School too. My brother, Paul, still has the advertisement from
the Bradford Era.”
