TODAY’S IDEA: One man’s junk is another man’s gem.

That’s our premise today on an idea to offer a win-win idea for
the Bradford community.

Everybody has a ton of “stuff” in their basement, attic, garage
and spare bedroom, right?  You don’t want to throw it out because,
in honesty, it has some value. But you don’t want to keep it
because it’s outlived its usefulness and it’s taking up room you
could fill with more “stuff.”

We’re thinking about old furniture, that extra coffee pot you no
longer use, a lawnmower that works but was replaced by a more
modern version, a few extra dishes or items of cookware.

How about those 30 storage bins you bought when you moved but no
longer have use for? Old canning jars, flower pots, books you’ve
read, clothes hanging in your closet unworn for a decade or so, old
workboots, a portion of the 20 shovels and rakes taking up room in
the shed, old powertools, lamps or even the cage your dog never
used and never will.

What to do with all this junk?

You could throw it out, give it to Goodwill, or keep ignoring it
for another decade. You could sell it in the Era classified or have
a garage sale. But, boy, that sounds like too much work, right?

How about a “free flea” sale?

Maybe some civic organization could designate one day in
particular when everyone in town could place these items in a
central location — just like a flea sale — and anybody who wanted
them could simply haul them away.

Still too inconvenient?

How about a day be designated and people simply put all these
items at their curb and offer them free for the taking?

With this system — yes, it is win-win — people will be able to
get to rid of these unwanted items and people who need them can
acquire them at no charge whatsoever. What’s left over could be
taken to a central location or, better yet, hauled to the
landfill.

Just our idea for today. We welcome your idea.
