OUTDOOR SHOW: The Kinzua Outdoor and Travel Show is on tap today
and tomorrow at the Bradford Mall, offering exhibits,
demonstrations, entertainment and special speakers. More than 100
exhibitors and vendors will be on hand. There’s a nominal
admittance fee. Hours today are 4-9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-6
p.m.
‘AMELIA’: Mark your calendar for Monday, March 8, when the film,
“Amelia,” will be shown at the Main Street Movie House.
This showing has been brought to Bradford as a joint venture of
the theater and the Zonta Club of Bradford.
Amelia Earhart herself was a member of Zonta. She was an active
member in the Boston club and later in the New York club until her
disappearance in 1937.
In addition, the showing of the film on March 8 is special to
the women of Zonta because it is International Women’s Day which
has been observed annually since 1911 throughout the world to
inspire women and celebrate the economic, political and social
achievements of women past, present and future.
The film, starring Hillary Swank and Richard Gere, is part of
Bradford’s Independent Film series, will be shown at 5:15 p.m. and
the Zonta Club will be providing free punch and cookies.
Zonta International, founded in 1919, is a global organization
of executives and professionals working together to advance the
status of women worldwide through service and advocacy.
Bradford’s Club is one of more than 1,200 chapters in 67
countries that make up Zonta International. Individual clubs
select, fund and participate in community service, education and
advocacy projects that promote women’s economic self-sufficiency,
political equality, access to education, health and the elimination
of violence against women.
The Zonta Club of Bradford, founded in 1956, raises money and
carries out service projects in the Bradford area to meet the
mission of Zonta. They fund scholarships for higher education and
give money to local organizations serving women by selling hard
candy during the holidays, operating a garage sale in early summer
and selling flower bulbs. They also staff the gates at the Crook
Farm Country Fair each year.
We’re told that Zonta will be among the groups and organization
to be represented at the 9th annual Kinzua Outdoor and Travel show.
While you’re there, be sure to stop by Zonta’s booth and learn all
about this worthwhile organization.
