TWO MORE: We have an update on Bradford native Trevor Jones who
spent part of last summer scaling Denali — with his sights set on
the highest peaks on all seven continents.

Trevor, an Army sergeant stationed in Alaska, wrote us at the
end of December to report he had surgery scheduled on his left foot
damaged in that arduous Denali climb.

“Turns out that ‘sprained ankle’ was really a torn tendon and
two fractured bones,” he writes. “I am planning on climbing two
mountains in the summer this year, Elbrus and Kilimanjaro.”

Trevor also noted a company called Geonorth is in the process of
making him a webpage in Alaska and it is expected to be completed
shortly. Once that’s done, we should be able to follow his training
and maybe even the climbs.

In case you don’t remember from geography class, Denali —
perhaps better known as Mount McKinley — is the highest peak in
North America at 20,320 feet. It’s in Alaska. Mount Elbrus in
Russia, at 18,481 feet is the highest peak in Europe; Mount
Kilimanjaro, located in Tanzania, is the highest peak in Africa at
19,339.

Others in the Seven Summits are: Mount Everest, the highest in
Asia, and the world, at 29,035 feet; Aconcagua in Argentina,
highest in South America at 22,840; Vinson Massif in the Ellsworth
Range, Antarctica, 16,067 feet; and Mount Kosciuszko in Australia
at 7,000 feet.

Trevor is raising money for the Wounded Warrior project.

CHRISTMAS ’08: Ruth Tackett was reminded this past Christmas of
2008’s holiday. “I spent that day without any electricity as did
many others. It made for a long, lonesome day. But late that
evening, I had a very welcome surprise. A knock on my door proved
to be two Bradford policemen! They were checking on the clients of
the Lifeline to see that we were all right. We couldn’t be reached
that day due to no electricity. It was great to know that someone
was concerned.”

A TRADITION: Gus Gocella writes  us from Tennessee: “I enjoyed
the Santa Claus and family display on Castle Drive (Dick Williams’
family) and his parents’ (Daryl and Martha) on Rockland Avenue over
the years. Their contributions to our Christmases are cherished
forever. Now their tradition continues at 800 E. Main St. What a
great tradition to continue.”
