BRADFORD DAYS: Carole Longo Harris of New Hope writes, “This is
one of my favorite Christmas Memories growing up in Bradford.”
“The Knights of Columbus worked hard to give all the children a
lovely celebration. When I was young, every year, Dom Romano, my
godfather, took me to the K. of C. Christmas party in the beautiful
building that became the post office. What a thrill. Children
dressed in their finest, sat on the floor and watched The Night
Before Christmas projected on a screen with an 8 mm camera (pre-
plasma TV screens and DVD era).
“After the movie a Clement Moore, holly, jolly Santa, called
each child by name to come up and receive a beautifully wrapped
package. Then we also received a purse size cardboard box with a
string handle. The box looked like a red and white chimney and was
filled with assorted hard candies of all colors and flavors.
“What a wonderful time for children to be children. We didn’t
have to worry about sugar, global warming, carbon footprints or
recycling. Merry Christmas to all of the Knights of Columbus,
present and past.”
TIP OF HAT: Florence Larson of Smethport wrote us a couple weeks
ago: “I just wanted to share something with my friends and
neighbors. After enjoying the Christmas concert at S.A.H.S., I went
out in the very cold night, only to find out my car wouldn’t start.
Everyone hurried to their cars and then on to the warmth of their
homes.”
“Only a few stragglers remained as I tried to get my car to come
to life. Then, someone pulled up beside my vehicle and asked if he
could help. I said I would surely appreciate the effort. We tried,
but still the car wouldn’t cooperate.
“Although, my car had to stay the night in the parking lot, I
truly would like to thank the young gentleman that lent a
considerate hand when I needed it. I have learned that his name is
Brian Nelson, from Smethport. Thank you Brian, from Flo Larson.
And, thanks Cathy Larson for the ride home.”

an ability to express them,” said Austrian satirist Karl Kraus,
