SANTA’S LIST: If you’ve made your Christmas list and are
checking it twice, you might want to add towels for the YWCA’s
homeless shelter.

Amy Pierce, the Y’s executive director, tells us that towels
have a habit of “walking out” and every once in a while, need to be
replaced.

Often, the supply is replenished by a well-timed donation but
that hasn’t happened this time. Amy was hoping RTS readers might be
able to fill in the gap.

Specifically needed are bath towels, new or used.

Many people don’t realize anyone in Bradford is ever homeless.
Amy tells us that, in the last year, the shelter served 59 women
and 52 children for a total of 4,354 nights. She fully expects to
see an increase in that number when the latest figures are
tallied.

Amy tells us, too, that the Y has just opened up an additional
three beds to deal with a lengthy waiting list.

And so … If you can give, the YW will be glad to receive. That’s
the YW at 24 W. Corydon St. (not the YMCA on Boylston Street).

STEEP BANKS: We’ve had quite a discussion in recent weeks  about
the various swimming holes around Bradford. A new one today.

Curt Carlson of Bradford mentions “Steep Banks,” a swimming hole
he frequented as a youth. The hole is off Derrick Road. If you look
down from the parking lot at Walmart or behind the outlets just
below Walmart, you can see the swimming hole today, we’re told.

Margaret Carlson of Bradford passed along that tidbit for her
husband. At the same time, she mentioned she had a call from her
grandson, Dr. Eric Carlson, originally of Kane, to report they had
snow where he lives in Dallas, Texas. That was more than a week ago
now when she phoned us.

Our apologies for the lateness with this report. Sometimes, we
get backed up in our RTS duties because of other tasks at hand.

Speaking of information getting a bit stale, we also had a call
Dec. 2 from Dawn Blaisdell reporting gas was going for $2.53 in
Johnsonburg. Heaven knows what it might be by now!
