SPECIAL FOLKS: We got this note the other day from John Roynan
of Ridgway: “I’ve wanted to do this for some time. I’ve had
problems walking for a few years. I use a walking stick. In that
time, countless people that I’ve never seen before have gone out of
their way to be nice to me. I’ve had young children stop and hold a
door. There are a lot of caring people in the world.”
BLUE MOONS: The moon made a big splashy display last week when
it was full — apparently, the first of two this month.
Denny Ordiway writes, “My calendar shows we will have a ‘blue’
moon in December, a full moon on Dec. 2, 2009, and another one Dec.
31, 2009. For the people that might say the one on New Year’s Eve
is actually, Jan. 1, 2010, then we would have two full moons in the
first month of 2010. Anyone willing to debate it in ‘RTS?”
Joe Howard of Mountain Home, Idaho, writes: “Sometime back there
was talk over what a blue moon was and it got cleared up. Just want
to point out December has a blue moon with a full moon on 2 Dec.
and another full moon on 31 Dec., moon still be white (laughing) to
the eye but it is called a blue moon this month. Merry Christmas to
all in the Bradford area.”
Looking ahead, we can’t help but think how great a full moon
will be when First Night Bradford takes place in the downtown area.
Make a nice touch, don’t you think?
KENDALL FIRE: Linda Crossley of Jamestown, N.Y., has a question
about a news event that was a little before our time. She writes,
“I would like to find out about a fire that happened at the Kendall
refinery in the late ’40s. My father worked there and was badly
burned but I can’t seem to find anything about it. Would appreciate
any information you have or where I might find any.”
If any of our readers have information, we’ll see that it gets
passed along to Ms. Crossley.
TODAY’S QUOTE: “We are the only animals that let our kids come
back home,” quipped Bill Cosby.
