MORE DOGS: A reader had asked about at Texas hot joint located
many years ago at the corner of Seaward Avenue and Bolivar Drive —
it was a new one on us.

Not new to Donna Whitford of Bradford who stopped by to tell us
her grandmother, Jane Cramer, operated the place in the early
1950s. She was called “Ma Cramer” and had the Texas hot recipe used
by Gus Bechakis.

It served a lot of hot dogs when the carnival came to town
across the street at what is now KOA Speer, Donna reports.

Meanwhile, we got a letter from Marian L. Shinners of Kill Buck,
N.Y.: “Regarding the recent Texas Hots articles, I used to go
roller skating on adult night at Evan’s Rollerdrome and Joyce Evan
had a great recipe for Texas hots. Nick’s were always best, but
Joyce’s were a close second.”

TRY AGAIN: We have to blame Snoopy and the gang for this one.
Ever since we started running the Peanuts’ “days until Christmas”
at the bottom of this column, we’ve been off a couple inches in our
estimate of the length of Round the Square. As a result, we’ve had
the same item trimmed twice from the bottom of the column.

This time, we decided to put it in the middle of the column,
making it less susceptible to elimination.

As we started to tell readers previously, the Pennsylvania Game
Commission is offering great Christmas gifts for outdoorsmen on
your list — including “The Birds of Pennsylvania.”

This book, written by Franklin Haas and Roger Burrows, is a
complete guide to identifying Pennsylvania wild birds, and features
295 of the bird species most likely to be found in the
Commonwealth.

You can find this and other gifts on the Game Commission’s
website.

KAN’S PLACE: Joan Kan Schmidt of Cream Ridge, N.J., writes, “…
saw the article about the Redman club being next door to my
grandfather’s store, Kan’s grocery before it became Frank Kan’s
bar. My brother Jim Kan actually held his wedding reception there.
I believe it was 1960.”
