OLD FRIENDS: Some post scripts on that Wall Street Journal story
about long-time pals and pols in Lewis Run:
Ed Rose of Beaumont, Texas, and a native of Kane, writes, “I was
delighted to read today’s front page story in the Wall Street
Journal about Lewis Run’s tandem of 87-year-old boyhood pals who
still agree to disagree on party politics.”
“The story said that Mayor Albert Montecalvo and his right-hand
man, Council President Frank Langianese, are both up for
re-election. Reading about these two who agree on most everything
but politics made me appreciate the diversity of views in my home
state.
“Although the story did not mention Bradford by name, the
article stated that the two pals played high school football
together for the ‘Ramblers.’ I wonder how often Montecalvo and
Langianese were able to agree on the next play call in the team’s
huddle?”
We also heard from Don Odell Jr., Marcellus, N.Y., “As a
Bradford native, I enjoyed the article. If Joe Paterno read about
these two gentlemen, he would ask Penn State for an extension of
his contract. He will be only 83 on his December birthday. The best
of everything to these remarkable men.”
HOT NEWS: More votes on “the best” of the Texas hots:
Craig Scott writes, “I liked Nick’s hot dogs, too. But, to me,
the best dogs in town came from the Keystone on East Main Street in
East Bradford. They had a chili sauce that was out of sight. And if
you were really hungry, you could finish your Keystone dogs and go
a couple doors down for French fries and gravy at Anderson’s
Diner.”
Gary Barr writes, “I have been salivating with all the
discussion of Texas Hots lately. Nick’s was up toward the top of
the list. My mother and I both worked for him — myself nowhere near
as many years as Mom. But one place that isn’t getting as much
attention for the hots is the Keystone in East Bradford. My aunt
worked there for years but I remember how great those dogs were
when I would wake up early, and my Dad had brought a few home and
fell asleep before finishing them. A greater breakfast hasn’t been
found.”
