GO OWLS: One thing the internet accomplishes is keeping former
residents in touch with all things Bradford — including the
football team.

“During the past few years the BAHS football teams have done a
great job. You can tell by reading it from here that it is a fun
time for the players, coaches, parents and grandparents. The last
names don’t change that much over the last 50 years,” writes Gus
Gocella who resides in Tennessee.

“Of course, there are new Bradfordians making there mark in the
record books at BAHS. Their children and grandchildren will read
about their efforts, too, long after we pass. The Era and its
writers do a great job in following sports in Bradford and the
student athletes should be proud of themselves, their parents and
grandparents for encouraging them to stay involved.”

NEW SUBJECT: Gus, who recently wrote us about the swimming hole
known as “Ten Foot,” throws out this question. “How about jumping
off the old Allegheny River Bridge? Myself and three others did it
and it was quite scary and not too smart! Any others?”

MORE MEMORIES: We also heard by email from former resident Gary
Barr: “I remember swimming at a place in what I remember as
Browntown where we had a rope from a tree. My youngest brother
almost drowned there. The BAB at 5th Ward was up South Kendall Ave
past Fretz if my sense of direction is right. We all used to
congregate there in the summer. The Nichols brothers, Gary
Robinson, the Barr gang and several other groups. I can remember
one fellow jumped in one day and hit his head. It was a scary day.
Can’t remember his name, but can still remember his face. Mom used
to know as soon as we walked in the house, we smelled like
crude.”

GAS PAIN: Even when reports of gas prices get delayed because of
other material for RTS, they still remain painfully on target. Jack
wrote to us on Sept. 25, “was filling up on gasoline in Kane
9/24/09. Gas was $2.41. The young man came out and changed the
price to $2.39 as I watched. Time to throw the tea in Sugar
Bay?”
