DENZEL MANIA: Harriet Armstrong of Bradford writes, “While
Denzel Washington is in the area for the filming of ‘Unstoppable,’
I’d like to put in a plug for yet another movie he was in (and
never gets mentioned) … the movie ‘Glory.’
“My husband and I saw this and felt that it was a great one,
depicting a regiment in the Civil War (the 54th out of
Massachusetts) and a battle at Fort Wagner in S.C.
“We feel that high school kids should have to watch these movies
as part of History classes, to make ‘history come alive’ for
them.”
BIG CAT: Tina Thomas of Bradford writes to us on Sept. 10: “My
husband and I were driving on High Street Extension today coming
from Lewis Run toward Bradford and about a little more than halfway
between Browntown Road and West Warren Road, a mountain lion came
running from the high side and ran across the road towards the
tracks. It was about 100 feet from us, but we are certain it was
not a deer! It was huge and fast! This was about 3:25 p.m.
today.”
TODAY’S QUERY: Don Carlson of Punta Gorda, Fla., has a question
for readers: “Sixty years ago, we went swimming at 10 foot at High
Street by the railroad tracks. The girls would peek, so you know
what we had on? Anyone remember?”
GAS PAINS: An Emery Towers resident called last week to report
on gas prices on her recent vacation with prices from the
ridiculous and sublime: Gas prices in Huntington Beach, Calif.,
were ,2.88 and near Locust Grove, Ga., were ,2.16.
BLUE WINGS: Heather Derucki-Nicholas of 5116 Windward Lane,
Bensalem, has a plea: “I was doing some research and came across a
story where you had mentioned a copy of the 1948 Blue Wings team
photo. My grandfather Walt Derucki played for them. My grandfather
recently passed away and we are trying to obtain as many of the
team photos as possible.” If you can help, her address is above, of
course, and email hdnicholas@yahoo.com
