LOOK UP: Dale Jackson who lives near Coudersport and has seen
those jets and other planes rendezvousing can explain a recent
maneuver we reported: The one plane in close proximity was
refueling the jets in mid-air.
CHERRY CURE: This may sound like an old wives’ tale but we’re
told it works. Cherries or cherry juice can help alleviate the pain
of gout.
High levels of uric acid trigger gout and cherries contain
flavonoids which reduce those levels.
We heard about this cure from a friend suffering from gout who
became desperate for help in easing the pain, and began some online
research. Studies since 1950 have shown that sufferers who consumed
a pound of cherries a day (or equivalent amount of cherry juice)
have a dramatic reduction in the amount of uric acid, and relief of
the joint pain that is unique to gout.
Like many “cures” for arthritis-like ailments, this does not
work for everyone. But, hey, give it a try. Let us know how it
works.
BAG IT: Ever since we saw a documentary about the horrendous
waste of plastic items, we’ve been tormented when we go to throw
away one of those small plastic sandwich bags. Heaven forbid, it’s
one of the larger bags! It just seems to be so much an example of
our throw-away culture.
A recent “Frugal Living” column by Sara Noel tantalized us by
discussing re-use of baggies, and even presented a couple
possibilities, but didn’t answer our core question.
At the risk of sounding incredibly stupid, we must ask: What is
the proper way to wash them out? And dry them?
Thanks to the “Frugal Living” column, we do have some hints for
their re-use after they’ve been cleaned. Sara wrote: “They’re
perfect to use for organizing and to keep things dry. You can put
often-used recipes inside a baggie. The recipe card stays clean for
the next time you need it.”
GAS PAIN: We had a recent report from Frank Organski of Bradford
that gas in Kane was selling for $2.629 as compared to Bradford’s
$2.699. Rocco Camas of Bradford, in his recent travels, reports
$2.61 for gas in North Carolina; $2.59 in Erie. Vic Longo tells us
Wednesday gas was going for $2.55 in St. Marys and $2.59 in
Johnsonburg.
