MOMS’ DAY: Chad Hayden writes, “Maybe you could put this in your
paper in appreciation for all the mothers.”
“Who would do the dishes?
Who would feed the fishes?
Who would do the laundry?
Who can fix any quandary?
Mothers know all the tricks
To all the problems we can’t fix.
They are up with the sun,
And make all things fun.
They dry up all the tears,
All the days, all the years.
They bandage scraped knees,
You never have to say, ‘Thanks,’ and ‘Please.’
They keep the house tidy and neat,
They even tie the shoes on your feet.
They do so much behind the scenes,
Seldom told how much it means.
They never ask for much,
For all this, that and such.
So if you see a Mom today
Give her a hug and kiss and say,
‘Hey, Mom, thank you, and Happy Mother’s Day.’ “
MOMS’ PAY: What is a mom’s worth work? That was the title of a
segment on NBC-TV’s Nightly News presenting the results of a survey
that averaged out what a mother’s time is worth.
According to the compensation experts at salary.com, whom the report quoted, the
average stay-at-home mom works a 40-hour work week, plus an
additional 56 hours of overtime. Furthermore, the average working
mom works 40 hours a week for her employer, plus 40 hours a week at
home – and an additional 17 hours in overtime.
The results showed that a stay-at-home mom with two pre-school
kids would earn about ,123,000 a year if the jobs she did were
outsourced.
The results are based on calculating the top 10 jobs mothers do
– everything from cook to driver to laundress – then how much time
a mom spends doing those jobs and how much money it would cost to
hire someone to do comparable work.
(We know many “Mr. Moms” are out there, too, as well as working
dads who do their share of the housework.)
If you’re interested in personalizing what your mom’s “salary”
would be, go to mom.salary.com
on the Web where you’ll find a calculator that lets you figure it
out.
But let’s face it – no calculator could ever determine the
amount of love that goes into the “priceless” job of being a mom.
And that’s what Mother’s Day honors.
