LOCAL ANGLE: Shelley Harvey of Bradford passes along a “small
world” item after reading the April 21 edition:

“In this morning’s Era appeared an obit (article) regarding the
death of Bob Rockwell from Corning, N.Y. As the article stated, Bob
was born in Bradford.

“Well, believe it or not, our daughter, Beth Harvey Manwaring
(Bradford High grad, class of 1999, and Mansfield U.) is the
communications/marketing person for the Rockwell Museum of Western
Art in Corning. She wrote the article and quote, and, of course,
sent it out.

“This world truly is small!”

BLOU NOTE: There he was, just sprawled all over the photograph
on page 1. We’re talking about Blou, Bradford’s philanthropic dog,
of course.

We’ve told readers about this special, photogenic border collie
before. Special because of his blue eyes, yes, but also because he
has raised a lot of money for charitable causes.

This time, though, his picture was in the St. Marys newspaper
and Blou was offering moral support – if only from a horizontal
position – to the Letters From Home volunteers who were preparing
material to send to our troops overseas. The stuffing campaign was
held in the Sacred Heart Activity Center on Church Street.

PET PEEVE: While we are on the subject of dogs we received this
pet peeve from a reader:

“Now that warmer weather is on the way, another ‘pet peeve,’
that actually involves pets. I know that we all love to take our
dogs for an ice cream treat, but why do some drivers insist on
holding their pets as they are going down the road? Over the
weekend, I passed at least three people doing this. They can’t
possibly be in control of their vehicles, let alone watching for
kids and other drivers.”

“Why are these drivers not stopped? (I was following a police
car when I saw one of these drivers this weekend.”

LOTS OF DEER: Jim Burns of Ramona, Calif., writes of a day
definitely gone by. “I’m originally from Bradford, lived there,
1935-1962. I remember, as many of you close to my age, seeing
hundreds of deer grazing day and night in our area. About 4 or 5
years ago, an article in Hunters Magazine about electrically
collaring bears. They followed them finding that when a deer
dropped a fawn got it. Draw your conclusion.”
