DERBY DAYS: In just a few short days, it will be the annual
running of the Kentucky Derby. Our friends at Bradford Area Public
Library have prepared some special events in conjunction with the
event and today we feature one of them – a quiz to test your
knowledge of the derby and its traditions.
A Derby Gala fundraiser which will be held on May 2 (that’s this
Saturday, folks) at the Bradford Club and will benefit the Bradford
Area Public Library’s endowment fund.
Quiz answers are at the bottom of this column. All answers are
true or false:
1. A bronze statue honoring 2006 Kentucky Derby winner
Barbaro was unveiled at Churchill Downs on April 26 of this
year.
2. The distance the Derby is run has always been 1.25 miles.
3. Churchill Downs was named for descendants of William
Clark of the Lewis and Clark expedition.
