Emery Towers Residents Association is reformed and ready to take action

The Emery Towers Residents Association is reformed and ready to
take action following a hiatus.

The group, which went dormant for approximately a year due to
lack of participation, has been revived by an interested group of
residents.

“The Emery Towers building opened in 1983, and shortly after
that the association began and ran concurrent up until 2008, at
which time there wasn’t enough participation to continue it.
Recently, we had enough volunteers to take over the board and it
began again,” said Bob Costello, Emery Towers building manager.
“(Tuesday) was the first meeting and a nice group of residents
attended and implied they want to join.

“The association has always been a bridge between the residents
and management as far as activities. It has always provided an
outlet for the residents to be involved in dances, dinners, baked
food sales.”

Bev Good is the current president of the association, while vice
president is Ellen Costello, secretary is Rose Colella and
treasurer is DeWayne Tarr. Good explained the residents are hoping
to do many things through the revived association.

“We have a beautiful building and a lot of facilities. We want
to show off our building,” Good said. “We are going to do some
exciting things and give back to the community.”

During the association’s introductory meeting Tuesday, several
plans were mentioned, including a float in the Big 30 parade,
assisting the Red Cross and sprucing up Veterans Square.

Trips were also discussed, including walks along local trails
and outings to the Olean Center Mall in Olean, N.Y., and the Seneca
Allegany Casino in Salamanca, N.Y. Events in the building were
suggested as well, including toureen dinners and puzzle and craft
nights for residents.

“We have purchased a Wii and hope to start a bowling league in
the building. The Residents Association would be in charge of
that,” Costello explained. “A lot of functions in the building
involve the Residents Association, so we are thrilled they are
reformed and hope it does well.”

The turnout for the introductory meeting was around 40 people,
giving the association hope that the things they wish to accomplish
are within reach.

“The Residents Association has goals; we want to give back to
the community and we want to get the people who live in the
building more active,” Good noted. “There were a lot of good ideas
tonight (Tuesday), a lot of good things going back and forth.”

The association set monthly dues and plan to meet again at 6
p.m. May 7.
