LOOK UP: Geese galore! Two separate reports Friday one from
Patty of Clermont and a second from James of Tacks Inn each of whom
saw northbound flocks Friday. We can personally vouch for a flock
of about 60 northbound birds heading over Marshburg on Saturday.
Amazing how the sound of a few dozen “honks” can lift one’s
spirits!

PETER DAULTON: The Oscars had generated a question about a
possible local connection to one of the movies that grabbed a
statue at the awards ceremony. A reader had wondered if perhaps
Burt Dalton, who clamed the Oscar, was the son of a former school
librarian Kit Dalton.

Quoting a reader, we had said that Kit Daulton had had a son,
David Daulton, but he was not in the movies.

But get this: Ray and Ruth Feura of Bradford dropped us a line,
“Jack and Katharyn Daulton moved from Bradford in 1987 to Virginia.
Jack worked at Corning. Katharyn worked as a librarian at 6th Ward
school and then at West Branch. Their son, Peter Daulton, worked in
special effects for Lucas films and has credits at the end of many
films, two of which I can name – ‘Forrest Gump’ and ‘Return of the
Jedi.’ Last year, Peter changed employment and now works for
Disney.”

The Feuras tell us Jack and Kit are very good friends of
theirs.

Once we got this note, it did jog a memory about this Peter
Daulton who we have written about previously.

And then we heard from Jackie Norton of Great Valley, N.Y.: “I
wrote you in the past regarding Peter Dalton who worked for
Industrial Light and Magic and worked on many high profile movies.
He is not the same person as Burt Dalton. However, I do believe the
Mrs. Dalton that was the 6th Ward Librarian was Peter’s mother.
They lived on Mill Street. There was a sister Debbie and a brother
David and maybe more I can’t remember. We used to call them fondly
‘the Dalton Gang.'”

ZIPPO SIGHTING: Diane Arnett of Bradford passes this along –
“Noticeable by its omission is the ‘Zippo sighting’ in the Clint
Eastwood movie ‘Gran Torino’ where the hero’s character carries a
Zippo from his days in Korea. Indeed, the lighter plays a key role
in the film – but can’t tell you without giving away the
ending.”
