WORM WORDS: “We found a woolly bear caterpillar outside
yesterday (Sunday) happily crawling along in a bare spot of
grass!”
We received the photo from Angela Shipman of Lewis Run. She
added, “Wondering if spring is around the corner! The little guy
was mostly brown, aside for a bit of black on his bottom end and a
li’l more black on his head! Thought I’d share!”
With the recent break in our weather, it’s put most of us to
mind of the coming spring – many weeks away, of course, but still
coming.
Bill Herzog of Bradford had phoned us last week to tell us he
had two thermometers outside his house, one on the east side; one
on the west. And they can record very different numbers. At the
time he phoned us, the one on the east was recording 53 degrees
while the one on the west showed only 20.
When Bill wanted to pretend spring was here, he’s consult only
the one temperature gauge.
Needless to say, the two indicators read the same number once
the sun went down.
Meanwhile on the weather front, we hear from Nancy H. Kania in
North Fort Myers, Fla.: “In case anyone in frigid Bradford cares
about Florida weather, we have had mornings in the low 30s, with
frost killing many of the flowering shrubs. Ocala, Fla., had a 24
degree reading! We in Fort Myers will now get up to 70 today. The
‘heat’ does feel good, but I have to admit, my mini-Schnauzer and I
really like those crisp mornings for our walk.”
From another part of Florida, we hear from Dawn Lerch on Sunday:
“Having lived in Aiken, Pa., most of my life, one of the things
most looked forward to in the spring were the robins coming back.
Well, good news, here in Milton, Fla., I have seen many robins. My
first sighting was about two weeks ago. Since then, there have been
numerous sightings. For those Pennsylvanians who are just plain
sick of the winter, spring may be just around the corner. I do
believe the robins are headed North!”
